April 21-23, 2018: Vancouver

Updated: Jun 17, 2018

Three days straight on concrete and pavement, over 50km walked, I'd call it a successful endeavour; however, the sunny weather helped a lot. I think it was the first weekend of sunshine for the Lower Mainland this month. And... the tourists took advantage: thousands on the Stanley Park Seawall ("Stay to the right, please!"). What impressed me this weekend most was the bike route in East Vancouver on the Adanac bike corridor. Hundreds of commuters enjoying rush hour on their two wheels. Very impressive!

False Creek and the Seawall were as advertised so not too much to mention here. Crowded. But the Burnaby section was interesting after the bike corridor ended. Great trails near the water and at Simon Fraser University, ugh! Hills, and more hills, especially the downhill to Port Moody... a tough finish to 22km that day.

After I left Hastings Street to ascend Burnaby Mountain to Simon Fraser University, the Trans Canada Trail became a 'real' trail, tree roots and a long climb up the mountain.

After the highway, the trail becomes a steep, root-infested climb
